The 2017 season is coming to an end and it's time to start thinking about the Estrella Damm Master Final, the tournament of all tournaments, which will take place from the 14th to the 17th of December at Pabellon 9 in Ifema, with the best players of the season taking part in four days of competition. Paquito Navarro and Sanyo Gutierrez in the men's, and Mapi and Majo Sanchez Alayeto in the women's, defend their titles from 2016. For the present edition, there are three new changes that will make it more exciting and competitive.
- 16 players in each category
The women's and men's categories will have the same amount of pairings. The women's event goes from 12 to 16 players. The 16 best ranked players after the Keler Bilbao Open will form the 8 pairings that will player for the Masters title in Madrid from the 14th to the 17th of December.
- More excitement: knockout format
The group format is replaced by a knockout system, with life or death matches from the first day. Thursday and Friday will stage two men's quarter finals and two women's quarter finals. The four semifinals will take place on Saturday while both finals will be played on Sunday.
- 1300 points in play
The biggest change is the fact that this tournament will reward points for the first time. The winners of the Estrella Damm Master final will receive 1300 points, the finalists 760, the semifinalists 470 and the quarter finalists 235. An injection of points that gives the tournament a whole new dimension and which could leave the number one spot up for grabs.
