Valladolid: No surprises in the women's draw

The favourites in the women's draw quickly progressed to the last sixteen. Twins Majo and Mapi Sanchez Alayeto start their campaing at the Valladolid Open against Maricarmen Villalba and Carla Mesa, while Marta Marrero and Alejandra Salazar will face youngsters Tamara Icardo and Ariana Sanchez. 

Valladolid: No surprises in the women's draw

The last sixteen took place at the Ciudad de la Raqueta with hardly any surprises.

Tamara Icardo and Ariana Sanchez recorded a quick 6-2, 6-2 win against Ana Laura Grandes and Cristina Bala.


The surprise package in Mallorca, Teresa Navarro and Lucia Martinez were knocked out by sixth seeds Lucia Sainz and Gemma Triay (6-4, 6-3). The Catalan and the Minorcan will face Cynthia Perez and Andrea Medina tomorrow after they defeated Alicia Blanco Rojo and Nerea Olano (6-3, 2-6, 6-1).

Veronica Virseda and Valeria Pavon will take on Patty Llaguno and Eli Amatriain in the last sixteen. Virseda and Pavon knocked out top ranked Argentine pairing, Silvana Campus and Virginia Riera, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Meanwhile, number 4 pairing Carolina Navarro and Cecilia Reiter will debut in Valladolid against Vanesa Alonso and Clara Teresa Siverio, who beat Sara Pujals and Maite Gabarrus (6-3, 1-6, 6-4).

The last sixteen will be played on Thursday afternoon, in two turns, from 18:30 onwards at the Ciudad de la Raqueta with free entry. You can see every result here as well as tomorrow's order of play.
