Two-time reigning number ones Juan Lebrón and Alejandro Galán have dominated the first men's Estrella Damm Alicante Open 2022 semi-final as they routed Sanyo Gutiérrez and Agustín Tapia on Saturday.

Lebrón and Galán have won the last two Alicante Opens, and Lebrón the last three as he was victorious in 2019 too with Paquito Navarro, and will fight to defend their crown on Sunday.

It will also be the third consecutive final appearance for the Spaniards, having done so previously in Reus and Vigo, but still wait for their first tournament win of the 2022 campaign.

One-sided from the start

The Centre de Tecnificació Esportiva in Alicante saw Lebrón and Galán start the match with a break and a 3-0 lead, Sanyo especially prone to making errors.

A second break followed at 4-1, allowing the number ones to serve for the set, which they successfully did. After 33 minutes, the scoreboard read 6-1.

Things did not improve much for Tapia and Gutiérrez in the second set, where Lebrón and Galán again broke at the first time of asking. Incredibly, the set was over after just 24 minutes, the three-seed not creating a single break opportunity.
