Top two seeds faultless in CDMX Open round of 16

The Centro Libanés in Mexico was the scenery of the four games disputed in the afternoon of the Round of 16. Both top two seeds were in action in the difficult conditions at centre court.

Galán/Lebrón (1) VS Martínez/Acevedo

Alejandro Galán and Juan Lebrón were the main characters of the first match of the afternoon, taking on Ricardo Martínez and Mexican Pablo Acevedo.

Despite the crowd supporting the local hero, the top pair in the world according to the rankings started to show their fantastic level on court and won the opening set 6-3 after taking a 5-0 lead.

After the short break, Galán and Lebrón started with some doubts about their service, but they soon got a break in their favour. Martínez and Acevedo, who became the first Mexican ever to reach an Open's round of 16, could not stop the number one pair in the world. They want to finish the year in the highest position on the rankings, which a CDMX Open win would guarantee them. Galán and Lebrón classified for the quarter-finals after winning 6-3 and 6-1 in one hour.

Moyano/Belluati VS Rico/Leal

On court 2, Ramiro Moyano and Juan Cruz Belluati faced Javi Leal and Josete Rico. The opening set was a constant battle of breaks on both sides of the court that led to a decisive tie break. Moyano and Belluati were highly effective in the crucial moments and took the first set 7-6.

Onto the second episode, where Javi Leal and Josete Rico wanted to improve their position on the court after their opening set showing. They showed a great level to win the set 2-6.

Court 2 witnessed a fantastic battle during the whole match, and especially in the third set with both teams very closely matched. Moyano and Belluati were able to break Leal and Rico's service to win the game 7-6, 2-6 and 6-4 after two hours.

Navarro/Di Nenno (2) VS Fernández/Diestro

The two-seed, Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno, faced the tough pair of Antonio 'Pincho' Fernández and José Antonio García Diestro next at centre court.

Navarro and Di Nenno, winners last week at the Buenos Aires Padel Master, started the match very concentrated. They knew by heart what they had to do on court to win, and executed it to perfection. They did not want to be surprised by Pincho and Diestro and won the opening set 6-2.

In the second set, things were more even with Fernández and Diestro playing long rallies in a very subtle way. The score was 5-5 when Paquito and Di Nenno were able to break their opponents. They defended their serve and stamped their tickets for the next round after winning 6-2 and 7-5 in two hours.

Chingotto/Tello (4) VS Nieto/Allemandi

The last ticket to the quarter finals was disputed between Fede Chingotto and Juan Tello against Tito Allemandi and Coki Nieto at centre court. Tello and Chingotto were able to adapt themselves faster to the condition of the court, and they used this great advantage to their own benefit. The four-seed, Gato and Chingotto, won the opening set 7-5.

In the second act, both teams continued to put pressure on the rivals' serve. Tello and Chingotto were superior at the end of the set, and they got a crucial break to win the match 7-5 and 6-4 after two hours and 20 minutes. They will now face Moyano and Belluati in the quarter-finals.
