The men's Vigo Open 2022 quarter-finals saw all top eight pairs left for the first time in 2022 on a Friday.

Both top two seeds were in immaculate form, one of them getting close to sealing a historically dominant victory.

Without further ado, this is how things unfolded on Friday in Vigo.

Stupaczuk/Ruiz (4) vs Belasteguín/Coello (6)

First in action on centre court were Alejandro Ruiz and birthday boy Franco Stupaczuk, taking on Miami's winners Fernando Belasteguín and Arturo Coello.

Bela and Coello took a brief lead in the opening set, until Ruiz and the now 26-year-old Stupaczuk hit back with ferocity. They counter broke and broke again for good measure, seeing out the set 6-4.

The second set was very intense, with breaks going back and forth. At 4-5, Belasteguín and Coello had two break and set points but could not capitalise.

To add insult to injury, they were then broken themselves right after. The match finished 6-4 7-5 after an hour and 38 minutes.

Navarro/Di Nenno (2) vs Capra/Ruiz (8)

Next were two-seed Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno against Lucho Capra and Javi Ruiz, with both pairs looking to make their first semi-finals of the year.

Di Nenno was in incredible form from the very first point onwards, charging through like a battering ram and Navarro not having to get involved. Capra and Ruiz did not have a single smash or break point in the set and lost 6-0 in under half an hour.

The situation stayed the same in the second set, Navarro and Di Nenno taking a 5-0 lead very swiftly.

There has not been a 6-0 6-0 victory in the quarter-finals or beyond since Mapi and Majo Sánchez Alayeto did it in 2017 in A Coruña, but Capra and Ruiz rescued a single game at the end to prevent a historic loss. It finished 6-0 6-1 after just 58 minutes.

Lebrón/Galán (1) vs Lima/Sánchez (7)

Number ones Juan Lebrón and Alejandro Galán followed against Pablo Lima and Maxi Sánchez in a rematch of the Reus quarter-finals.

As if Lebrón and Galán saw what happened in the previous game and decided to prove to the people in the IFEVI they were just as good, they blew the doors off of the match quickly.

The opening set finished 6-1 with two breaks, with things not improving much in the second set for Lima and Maxi. Galán beat his former team-mate Lima 6-1 6-2 in an hour and one minute, and they will face one of the next two pairs next...

Tapia/Gutiérrez (3) vs Tello/Chingotto (5)

An all-Argentinian match finished proceedings on Friday as Agustín Tapia and Sanyo Gutiérrez played five-seed Juan Tello and Fede Chingotto.

The match started with a break and counterbreak, leaving things at 2-2. At 3-3, Chingotto/Tello had four break points but did not take any of them, and the very next game, Tapia and Sanyo did. They closed the set out 6-3.

The leaders in The Race 2022, Reus winners Tapia and Gutiérrez broke again late in the second set. It was the only break of the set, but it was enough, and the match finished 6-3 6-4 after an hour and 23 minutes.
