The Keler Euskadi Open got underway at Illumbe with Ernesto Moreno - Cristian Germán Gutiérrez vs. Pablo Lijó - Jordi Muñozwith the first set going to Lijo and Muñoz after an exchange of breaks 6-4. In the second set the Galician and the Canary Islander threw down the gauntlet and raced away to a 6-1 scoreline which booked their place in the quarter finals.

In the second match, Aday Santana and Willy Lahoz took on Javier Escalante and Toni Bueno. The first set went to the duo coached by Horacio Alvarez Clementi 6-2.

But Bueno and Escalante reacted in the second set where they took a 5-3 lead and served for the set. However, the experienced duo found their way back and turned the situation around to clinch the set 7-5 and reach the quarter finals.

Next up at the Donostia Arena was Paquito Navarro - Sanyo Gutiérrez vs. Luciano Capra - Godo Díaz. The world number two pairing took the first two games and despite showing some doubts on serve, ended up taking the set 6-3 in 34 minutes.

In the second set, Navarro and Gutierrez looked more comfortable and left no room for a comeback, taking the set 6-2 and closing out the match in an hour and 15 minutes. The Spanish-Argentine pairing reaches another quarter final.

The last quarter final place to be handed out in the morning session would be a scrap between Uri Botello - Fede Quiles and Cristian Gutiérrez - Marcello Jardim. A very tight first set would be decided by a single break which gave Quiles and Botello a 6-4 lead. Quiles and Botello continued in the same manner in the second set. The pairing from Melilla and Argentina took the first four games in the second set but Gutierrez and Jardim remained undeterred and clinched five consecutive games. Quiles and Botello reacted however in an epic end to the set which had to be decided in a tiebreak which ended up going their way, with the final score being 6-4 / 7-6.
