Third time charm for Sánchez/Josemaría, overcome demons to win Vigo Open 2022

Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría have been crowned the winners of the Vigo Open 2022 after beating number ones Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay on Sunday at the IFEVI.

Sánchez and Josemaría had never beaten Salazar and Triay in a final in six previous attempts, including the Miami Padel Open and Reus Open this season.

The third time in 2022 proved to be the charm, however, the number twos beating the number ones in straight sets.

The match started with a similar story, Triay and Salazar breaking at 1-1 to take the lead of the set. However, Ari and Paula came back with a break of their own at 3-2, only to be broken again at 4-4.

Serving for the set, Triay and Salazar were broken to make it 5-5, and then broken again at 6-5; the opening frame finished 7-5 to the rankings' underdogs.

The second set featured just a single break rather than five, and again, it fell to the number two pairing. Last season's Estrella Damm Master Final winners Sánchez and Josemaría broke at 2-1 and never looked back.

In their sixth consecutive final, and Josemaría's 20th in World Padel Tour, they won 6-3 in the second set to claim their first title of 2022.

They have slayed their demons, finally, beating Salazar and Triay in a final as their conquest for number one status continues.

Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría, your champions of the Vigo Open 2022!
