The Palau cheers Tello

The last semifinal of the Barcelona Master 2021 was guaranteed to entertain, with two of the most gifted pairs in men's padel going head-to-head: Alejandro Galan and Juan Lebron, and Juan Tello and Fede Chingotto. Lebron and Galan, the world number ones, have won four tournaments in 2021, while Tello and Chingotto - the longest-serving partnership on the circuit - were looking for their first trophy of the year.

There was very little to separate the pairs, with both holding serve, right up until game ten of the first set. With Lebron and Galan 5-4 up and Fede Chingotto serving, the world number ones sensed their opportunity. Chingotto and Tello saved the first set point - but they couldn't do it again with the second. The first set, 6-4 to Lebron and Galan.

It was a series of golden points that determined the way the match was heading in set two. Chingotto and Tello broke to go 3-2 ahead, before an immediate reply from Lebron and Galan, who levelled and then went in front. It was back and forth. A fifth golden point went the way of Chingotto and Tello, and then a break, as Chingotto and Tello had the chance to level the match at one set all - and took it, 6-4.

A third set would decide the outcome. Once again, it was a rollercoaster. There were breaks on both sides, but Chingotto and Tello slowly took control. Their 3-2 lead became 4-2 and then 5-2 as the set drifted away from Lebron and Galan.

Juan Tello served for the match, and took his chance. After 2 hours and 11 mins, a win for Chingotto and Tello 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, completing the lineup of finalists at the Barcelona Master.
