The 2018 season on the World Padel Tour is underway at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Master Trofeo Adeslas. A tournament that now knows the 32 pairings that will battle it out in the men's draw. The Club Barberá Indoor Padel hosted the final round of qualifying which defined the last four pairings to qualify.
The first pairing to make it came from the clash between Antonio Luque - Diogo Rocha and José Rico - Víctor Ruíz. The latter controlled the match and won the first set 6-3. They continued to control proceedings in the second set, making the most of their strong form to win 6-4 and reach the main draw in Badalona.
The second ticket into the last 32 of the Master went to Raúl Marcos and Raúl Díaz. The duo from Madrid took a very tough clash against Antonio "Pincho" Fernández and Miguel Oliveira. The "Rauls" took advantage by winning the first set 6-4. In the second set, the Spanish/Portuguese pairing put up more of a fight and forced a tiebreak which they took to force a third set (6-7). The third set was just as tense and draining, with Diaz and Marcos making the most of a break to win 7-5.
Gonzalo Rubio and Javier Garrido will also be in the main draw of the Estrella Damm Catalunya Master. The Andalusians had to overcome Sergio Alba and Roberto Rodríguez who pushed them all the way in the first set, which ended 7-5. Alba and Rodriguez were showing the standard that got them this far from prequalifying but in the second set Rubio and Garrido took it up a notch and won 6-2.
The last pairing to make it was Rafael Méndez and Diego Ramos who defeated Christian Fuster and Miguel Ángel Solbes in the quickest match of the round. It took them just an hour and 20 minutes to advance, winning the first set 6-4 and the second 6-1.
The main draw for the first tournament of the season, the Estrella Damm Catalunya Master Trofeo Adeslas, is completed and the action will move to the Palau Olimpic de Badalona with the first men'a matches beginning at 10:00.
