Stupaczuk and Ruiz conquer CDMX Open final, deny Navarro and Di Nenno number one status

Franco Stupaczuk and Alejandro Ruiz have beaten Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno in an enthralling three-set CDMX Open final.

In the final Open of the season, Stupa and Ruiz won their second tournament of 2021 after winning in Sardinia, where they beat the same pair in the final.

A win for Navarro and Di Nenno would have seen them go top of the rankings heading into the Master Final, but the duo could still become 2021's number one pair in Madrid.

How the CDMX Open final unfolded

Centre court at the Centro Libanés lit up to determine the winners of the CDMX Open final. On one side, Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno, who were in their eighth consecutive final. On the other, Alejandro Ruiz and Franco Stupaczuk, who had knocked out the number ones Alejandro Galán and Juan Lebrón already in the quarter-finals.

The final began with Stupa and Ruiz at their very best from the off. They took a two-break advantage to lead 4-0 early-on. Navarro and Di Nenno tried to mount an improbable comeback, breaking at 5-2, but Stupa and Ruiz counter-broke to end the opening frame 6-3.

Paquito and Martín started to feel more comfortable in the second set and took the break in the fourth game. The two-seed managed to win all of their service games in the second act and forced a decider after winning with a 3-6 of their own.

The fifth-seeded Stupaczuk and Ruiz started the third set like they did the first, breaking at the very first time of asking. Surviving a break point at 2-0, they kept their lead intact all the way as they never conceded their service. At 5-2, they broke service for the second time to win the set, the match, and the CDMX Open final.

Franco Stupaczuk and Alejandro Ruiz, your winners of the CDMX Open 2021!
