Qualifying concluded for the Menorca Open 2022 at the Pabellón Espíritu Set Canaletes with Russian player Ksenia Sharifova making it through.

She was not the only international player to come out of qualifying alive, Italians Giulia Sussarello and Emily Stellato doing the same in their respective match.

A great showing from all international (non-Spanish) players, then, read all about it in the match reports below!

Guinart/Cánovas vs Piltcher/Fernández de Ossó

Qualifying's number one seed Marina Guinart and Noa Cánovas kicked off the finals as they faced Ana Fernandez and Brazilian Raquel Piltcher.

Despite their status as the favourites, Guinart and Cánovas were second-best in the first set, losing it 4-6.

Looking to make their tenth consecutive main draw, Guinart and Cánovas managed to come back into the match and complete the comeback, winning 6-4 6-3 to go through.

Five-seed Aranza Osoro and Victoria Iglesias await in the round of 32.

Sharifova/Francés vs Reiter/Blanco

Coming from pre-qualifying, Ksenia Sharifova and Estela Francés were one step away from going all the way to the main draw.

In front of them in the final round were Alicia Blanco and former number one Cecilia Reiter.

In a level first set, Francés and Sharifova managed to best their rivals in the tie-break to go up 7-6 on the scoreboard.

Using this momentum, the Spanish-Russian tandem broke and stayed ahead in the second set. They claimed it 6-3 to make it to the main draw, where four-time number ones Mapi and Majo Sánchez Alayeto await them.

Sussarello/Stellato vs Hernández/Martínez

Three-seed Giulia Sussarello and Emily Stellato took on seven-seed Sandra Hernández and Patricia Martínez next in a level match on paper.

The Spaniards Hernández and Martínez took an early lead, winning 3-6 in the opening frame.

When they thought they had their Italian rivals down, back came Stellato and Sussarello.

6-4 in the second set and 6-2 in the third gave them passage to another main draw. Here, they will play Lorena Rufo and Carla Mesa on Wednesday.

""

Merino/Alonso vs Velasco/Alonso

Finally, eight-seed Jimena Velasco and Lorena Alonso would play fellow Spaniards Melania Merino and Alejandra Alonso.

In another three-set affair, Merino and Alonso took the first set via a double break, 6-2, but would be countered with the same score in the second set by Velasco and Alejandra Alonso 2-6.

In the final set, with the last ticket to the main draw up for grabs, Merino and Lorena Alonso came back to retake initiative. Winning 6-3, they went all the way.

Mari Carmen Villalba and Carmen Goenaga will be their opponents on Wednesday.
