Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría have beaten number three pair Lucía Sainz and Marta Marrero in the first Cervezas Victoria Cordoba Open semi-final.

After missing the Menorca Open, Sánchez and Josemaría have returned in style and are in their eighth final of the 2021 World Padel Tour season, looking for their fifth tournament win of the campaign.

A clash between the numbers two and three in terms of seedings, Saturday morning's game at the Palacio Vista Alegre was always going to be close.

The first set confirmed this. Service was broken four times in a row, two by each pair. However, when Sánchez and Paulita Dinamíta Josemaría broke for the third straight time, they did manage to win their own game after. With breathing space, the two 24-year-olds saw out the first set, which finished 6-4.

In the set that came after, the number three-ranked player Ariana Sánchez came into her own. The Catalan player was ruthless on the 20 by 10, leaving her veteran opponents scrambling more often than not.

While serve was held more easily by both sides this set, Ari and Paula did get the breakthrough in the sixth game to make it 4-2.

Sainz and Marrero got close to a counter-break but the rankings' favourites held firm. After an hour and 40 minutes, the first Cordoba Open semi-final of the day finished 6-4, 6-4.
