Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay have been crowned champions of the Estrella Damm Barcelona Master Final 2022 and the number ones of the world.
The Spaniards beat Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez on Sunday by 3-6 6-4 6-4 and snatched the number-one spot from them at the last possible chance.
Never before was the number one at stake heading into the final at the Master Final. Salazar and Triay had to win five titles in a row to re-take top spot, finishing 2022 with a record-breaking 12 titles.
Josemaria and Sanchez had been the number-one seed since winning the Madrid Master in September, but did not win a title since. They finish the season with a record 18 finals, seven of which were converted into titles.
