Salazar and Triay, five titles in a row to retain number-one status

Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay have won 12 titles in 2022 to end the year as the world's number ones once again.

Salazar and Triay shattered all kinds of records in their campaign, but needed every single one of their wins to fend off the brilliant Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez.

No women's couple had ever won ten titles in a season before, let alone 12, underlining the utter dominance of the Spaniards.

12 titles also draws level with the absolute record that Pablo Lima and Fernando Belasteguin hold. The South Americans won 12 tournaments in their all-conquering 2016 season.

However, heading into the final of the Estrella Damm Barcelona Master Final 2022, the number one was still up for grabs. This was also a first.

Josemaria and Sanchez had 185 more points heading into the season's climax, and the two couples met in the final, meaning that the winner would end the season on top.

Take a look back at that, and the rest of the stunning season of Ale and Gemma.
