The second half of the Cervezas Victoria Marbella Master 2022 round of 32 was played out on Wednesday at the Marbella Arena.

An injury occurred, a final from last week was replayed and the number ones were in action on the second matchday of the main draw.

A lot to get into then! Here is what happened in all eight matches on the Spanish coast.

Jensen/Mesa vs Alayeto/Alayeto (8)

The first match to finish on Wednesday was because of a very unfortunate incident. Claudia Jensen and Carla Mesa were playing eight-seed and four-time number ones Mapi and Majo Sánchez Alayeto.

Majo had injured her calf in Brussels several weeks ago, causing her to miss the Danish Padel Open last time out.

Mapi teamed up with Sofia Araújo and surprisingly reached the final, but was now back with her twin sister.

After the first set, however, Majo had to retire from the match with an injury to the same calf. The first set was 6-1 to Mesa and Jensen, but the match stopped there, putting them through to the round of 16. World Padel Tour wishes Majo a speedy recovery!

Ortega/González (3) vs Villalba/Nogueira

The new three-seed Marta Ortega and Bea González started their first Master together since Barcelona in 2020, taking on Mari Carmen Villalba and Ana Catarina Nogueira.

Ortega and González won last time out in Denmark, their first title for almost two years, and picked up where they left off on Wednesday.

Winning the first set 6-2, they followed it up with a 6-3 in the second frame. Villalba and Nogueira never got into the match and were beaten after an hour and 39 minutes.

Guinart/Cánovas vs Sussarello/Pappacena

A Mediterranean duel was next on court 3 as Spaniards Marina Guinart and Noa Cánovas took on Italians Giulia Sussarello and Chiara Pappacena.

Another grueling three-set match under the Spanish sun, Sussarello and Pappacena took the first set 4-6.

A comeback was needed for Guinart and Cánovas, and it came in a big way. Sweeping the second set 6-0, they continued on their path by winning the decider 6-3.

Osoro/Iglesias (7) vs Cortiles/Clascá

Seven-seed Aranza Osoro and Victoria Iglesias stepped onto court 2 next against Anna Cortiles and Xenia Clascá.

Fresh off their semi-final in Copenhagen, Osoro and Iglesias struggled in the first set to adapt to the toasty conditions on the Spanish south coast.

Tied at 5-5, they then broke through to win 7-5 in the opening set. This had clearly been a big hit for Cortiles and Clascá, who were swept 6-0 in the second set and sent home after an hour and 11 minutes.

Merino/Alonso vs Reiter/Polo

Qualifying pair Lorena Alonso and Melania Merino featured next against Julia Polo and sole Argentinian Cecilia Reiter.

While Polo and Reiter were favourites coming in, Merino and Alonso were much the better team all match long.

Taking the first set 6-3, the Spaniards won with an even more convincing 6-1 in the second set to go through to the round of 16.

Marrero/Sainz (6) vs Castelló/Collombon

A replay of last week's Mallorca Challenger final featured next as Marta Marrero and Lucía Sainz played Jessica Castelló and Alix Collombon at centre court.

Three days after winning a three-set duel in the Challenger final, Marrero and Sainz played much better on Wednesday.

They won the first set with two breaks' difference, taking it 6-2, and repeated the feat in the second set.

The Spanish-French tandem of Castelló and Collombon were sent home with a double 6-2 after an hour and 16 minutes.

Talaván/Araújo vs Martínez/Saiz

The brand-new pairing of Marta Talaván and Sofia Araújo ended the early games on court 3 against Sofía Saiz and Marina Martínez.

In a sub-hour match, Talaván and Araújo showed great chemistry and aggression to take the first set 6-3.

Fresh after her first final in World Padel Tour in Denmark, Araújo continued showing great form as she and Talaván swept the second set 6-0.

""

Triay/Salazar (1) vs Amatriaín/Navarro

Number ones Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay made their Marbella bow at centre court, taking on two former number ones in Eli Amatriaín and Carolina Navarro.

Nobody has taken Salazar and Triay to three sets more often than Amatriaín and Navarro, but the veterans could not repeat that feat on Wednesday.

After missing their first final of the season in Denmark, Triay and Salazar played a very concentrated match from start to finish to take a double 6-3 and put themselves into the round of 16.
