Riera and Llaguno dash Brea's Master Final hopes in Mexico quarter-finals

Friday's Telcel Huawei Mexico Open 2022 quarter-finals saw four-seed Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno end the hopes of Delfi Brea to make the Estrella Damm Barcelona Master Final as the 22-year-old was knocked out in straight sets.

Friday's Telcel Huawei Mexico Open 2022 quarter-finals saw four-seed Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno end the hopes of Delfi Brea to make the Estrella Damm Barcelona Master Final as the 22-year-old was knocked out in straight sets.

Brea needed a win on Friday to qualify, with Mapi and Majo Sanchez Alayeto losing earlier in the day, but she and Marta Marrero could not make enough of a fist against Riera and Llaguno.

Salazar/Triay (2) vs Caldera/Saiz

First on the agenda at centre court were Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay, who faced young Spaniards Bea Caldera and Sofia Saiz.

 

Ortega/González (3) vs Alayeto/Alayeto (8)

On court 2, Friday's action started with three-seed Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez, who faced four-time number ones of the world Mapi and Majo Sanchez Alayeto.

 

Josemaria/Sanchez (1) vs Las Heras/Virseda (7)

Number ones of the world Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez featured next as they faced break-out pairing of the 2022 season Barbara Las Heras and Veronica Virseda.

 

Riera/Llaguno (4) vs Brea/Marrero (6)

Finally, Delfi Brea needed a win to qualify for the Master Final alongside Marta Marrero, but had to get past four-seed Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno.
