Rico suffers injury, Capra/Sánchez cause upset in Valencia Open quarter-finals

The men's Estrella Damm Valencia Open 2022 quarter-finals on Friday saw the local Josete Rico retire from his match through injury and an upset being caused elsewhere.

Seven of the top eight made it to Friday on the Spanish East coast, but not all of the top four could make it into Saturday's semi-finals.

Gutiérrez/Tapia (3) vs Rico/Gutiérrez

La Fonteta first saw three-seed Sanyo Gutiérrez and Agustín Tapia looked to make their 11th semi-final in a row, facing Sanyo's nephew Agustín Gutiérrez and Valencia's very own Josete Rico.

 

Di Nenno/Navarro (2) vs Ruiz/González (7)

Two-seed Martín Di Nenno and Paquito Navarro looked to get back in the semi-finals, taking on Malagans Alejandro Ruiz and Momo González.

 

Lima/Stupaczuk (4) vs Capra/Sánchez (8)

Winners in Toulouse Pablo Lima and Franco Stupaczuk featured next, taking on Argentinians Lucho Capra and Maxi Sánchez in an all-South American affair.

 

Lebrón/Galán (1) vs Coello/Belasteguín (6)

Finally, a replay of the Valladolid Master final 12 days prior saw number ones Juan Lebrón and Alejandro Galán play Arturo Coello and Fernando Belasteguín.
