With two tournaments in the books, Estrella Damm Reus Costa Daurada Open 2022 winners Sanyo Gutiérrez and Agustín Tapia have taken the lead in The Race 2022.

The Race is a ranking from the current season only. The top 16 players at the end of the year in the Race will qualify for the Estrella Damm Master Final, which will be held in Barcelona in 2022.

While there are still 21 Master and Open events left before the Master Final, here is a look at the standings with two tournaments done.

New leaders in The Race 2022

After their first win of the season and a semi-finals appearance in Miami, Sanyo Gutiérrez and Agustín Tapia lead the way in the new season. The Argentinians have cobbled together 1340 points, 210 points clear of Miami's winners Fernando Belasteguín and Arturo Coello.

They are the only pair together with Juan Tello and Federico Chingotto to make the semi-finals in both tournaments in 2022. 'The cat and the mouse' Tello and Chingotto are therefore seventh and eighth in the rankings.

Bela and Coello lost in the round of 16 this time around in Reus,

After a stuttering start in Miami, Juan Lebrón and Alejandro Galán are now in the top ten of The Race as they made the final in Reus.

Looking down the list

Reus' surprise package Miguel Yanguas and Coki Nieto have overtaken 36 other players to nestle into 11th and 12th place respectively, stranding in the semi-finals despite having three match points in the second set.

This would put them in the Master Final, a tournament they have both never disputed in their young careers.

With 21 tournaments still to go, however, Yanguas and Nieto will have to cause plenty more upsets to stay within the top 16.""
