Paquito and Di Nenno, in survival mode

Navarro/Di Nenno VS Allemandi/Nieto

Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno were the first pair to book their place in the semifinals of the Cascais Padel Master in Portugal on Friday. The partnership jointly ranked seventh currently on the tour, according to this season results, overcame the surprise pairing of the tournament so far Adrián 'Tito' Allemandi and Coki Nieto in a very close quarter final that they went to a tight third set.

The eventual winners needed a tie break in the first set, which they took dropping just one point. Before Tito and Coki fought back to take the second 6-4. After a break apiece in what became a grueling battle between two inform pairs, it looked like the deciding set would also go to a tie break until a crucial golden point was taken by Paquito and Martín to take the set 7-5 and book their place in Saturday’s semi-final.

Chingotto/Tello VS Ruiz/Coello

There were no surprises in the second quarter final of the day when Federico Chingotto and Juan Tello took their place in the last four at Cascais with a straight sets victory over Arturo Coello and Javier Ruiz.

The Argentines currently ranked ninth in the world were able to take care of business with the minimum of fuss against the lower ranked Spanish pairing. The first set went their way after conceding an early break. But they were able to up their game at just the right time to break back twice and take the set 6-4 in 47 minutes.

The second set was equally well contested and went with serve until the tenth and final game when the Argentines broke again and closed out with another 6-4 to reach Saturday’s semifinal where they will meet Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno.

Lima/Tapia VS Sánchez/Capra

The winners of the last two events on the World Padel Tour, Agustín Tapia y Pablo Lima were knocked out at the quarter final stage in Cascais on Friday as Maxi Sánchez and Lucho Capra proved too strong for the in-form pair.

Sánchez and Capra have already won an outdoor event this season in Valladolid and they needed to show that ability once again in Portugal to come back from an early break at 3-1 down to take the first set 7-5.

The Argentine partnership then got an early break in the second set and from there never looked back. Their attacking play on the front foot at the net meant there was no break back for Lima and Tapia and the second set was wrapped up 6-3, and the tie itself in just over an hour and a half for a place in Saturday’s semi.

Galán/Lebrón VS Rico/Momo

As expected, the world number one pairing of Alejandro Galán and Juan Lebrón marched into the final four in Cascais with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the final quarter-final of the day.

In an all-Spanish affair, their opponents Momo Gonzalez and Javier Rico battled gamely but were no match for the dynamic duo who saw out the match in just one hour twenty minutes to reach their eighth semi of the season so far. Not a bad stat from just ten tournaments.

They will now face the dangerous partnership of Maxi Sánchez and Lucho Capra on Saturday in what should be a cracking semi, for a place in what would be their fifth final from those ten events so far.
