Ortega and González perfect in spectacular Menorca Open quarter-final showing

Just eight couples remained as the Estrella Damm Menorca Open quarter-finals were disputed on Friday at the Pavelló Menorca.

Three of the top eight pairs were already eliminated, and more surprises would unfold throughout the matchday again.

On court 2, Marta Ortega and Bea González had a historically perfect showing, not conceding a single game as they won 6-0 6-0. A match in the quarter-finals or later has only once been swept before back in 2017.

Josemaría/Sánchez (1) vs Collombon/Castelló

Number ones of the world Paula Josemaría and Ariana Sánchez had made 11 consecutive semi-finals heading into Friday, while opponents Alix Collombon and Jessica Castelló looked to make it their for their first-ever time.

 

Salazar/Triay (2) vs Alayeto/Alayeto

Last season's number ones Alejandra Salazar and Menorca-born Gemma Triay featured next, taking on four-time number ones Mapi and Majo Sánchez Alayeto.

Ortega/González (3) vs Jensen/Navarro

Over on court 2, three-seed Marta Ortega and Bea González looked to lengthen their rich vein of form as they took on Carolina Navarro and Claudia Jensen.

Riera/Llaguno (5) vs Sainz/Icardo (8)

Finally, veterans Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno featured against the brand-new duo of Lucía Sainz and Tamara Icardo.
