Men's Danish Padel Open 2022 underway with a bang

The men's Danish Padel Open 2022 is off and running as the first half of round of 32 fixtures were disputed on Tuesday at the Royal Stage Hillerød.

Two of the top eight seeds made their Danish debut on Tuesday, this being the first-ever tournament held in the country.

Here is what happened in all six matches in the men's bracket on Tuesday.

Capra/Sánchez (8) vs Cepero/Lijó

The winning pair of Lucho Capra and Maxi Sánchez were in action first against Álvaro Cepero and Pablo Lijó in Copenhagen.

Two duos who have recently reunited after splitting prior, Capra and Sánchez fulfilled their role as favourites by winning the first set 6-4.

The Argentinians were much too strong in the second set, where they swept it 6-0 to go through to the round of 16.

Bergamini/Ruiz vs Skajaa/Hess-Olesen (W.C.)

The Brazilian-Spanish partnership of Lucas Bergamini and Víctor Ruiz took on the Danish wildcard pairing of Nils Skajaa and Esben Hess-Olesen at centre court.

In front of their Danish fans, Skajaa and Hess-Olesen were in the first set to start. It did end 6-3 to Bergamini and Ruiz.

The duo was much too strong in the second set, where they won 6-1 to go through to the second round in Copenhagen.

Rubio/Ruiz vs Marcos/García

The very capable duo of Gonzálo Rubio and Jorge Ruiz played against qualifiers Raúl Marcos and Javi García on court 2 of the Royal Stage.

Rubio and Ruiz have been in really good form of late, and they made do on their status as favourites in this match.

They won with a double 6-3 against Marcos and García, who go home after a solid tournament in Denmark.

Seven-seed Álex Ruiz and Momo González went through to the round of 16 with a WO, their match against Álex Arroyo and Iván Ramírez never starting.

Rico/Zaratiegui vs Rico/Ruiz

Court 2 featured Josete Rico and Íñigo Zaratiegui in their bid against the two Javis, Javi Ruiz and Javi Rico.

An epic three-set duel, underdogs Rico and Zaratiegui surprisingly won the opening set 6-4, only to be countered with a 6-7(8) after a long and gruelling tie-break.

Finally, Rico and Zaratiegui persevered and won 7-5 in the final set to go through to the round of 16.

Yanguas/Nieto vs Barahona/Esbri

Finally, Miguel Yanguas and Coki Nieto made their Danish debut against the qualifying duo of Javi Barahona and Juanlu Esbri at centre court.

The big favourites, Nieto and Yanguas broke down their opponents eventually in the first set to take it 6-3. It was more straightforward in the second, where it ended 6-1.
