Mena and Mouriño make Cascais main draw from pre-qualifying!

The main draw for the Cascais Padel Open has been completed on Monday evening as four pairings will join the top seeds and wild cards in the main draw.

A surprise inclusion saw Fede Mouriño and Víctor Mena triumph all the way from the first round of pre-qualifying.

Alonso/Esbri vs Solano/Windahl

The number one seed of the qualifying stages Edu Alonso and Juanlu Esbri came into action first, taking on the new couple of Swede Daniel Windahl and Spaniard José Solano.

Alonso, who won the Mallorca Challenger earlier this season with Miguel Lamperti, was playing at his very best along fellow youngster Esbri, and it showed.

The match finished in a double 6-4 to Alonso and Esbri, denying Windahl passage from qualifying for an event for the first time.

Muñoz/Vilariño vs Alba/Sans

Jaime Muñoz and Nacho Vilariño already rocked the boat in Portugal by beating José Jiménez and Rafa Méndez earlier in qualifying, and faced Sergio Alba and Tonet Sans for a direct ticket to the main draw.

Muñoz and Vilariño kept up their hot streak from prior rounds, bursting out of the gates to win 6-3 6-2 in quick succession.

Salva Oria and Jorge Ruiz await in the round of 32.

Mouriño/Mena vs Del Castillo/Sánchez

Coming all the way from round one of pre-qualifying, Fede Mouriño and Víctor Mena were already playing their sixth match in three days when they faced Joseda Sánchez and Mario del Castillo.

Tired legs did not seem to play a part for the underdogs, who broke twice to take the opening set by 6-2. While overwhelming favourites Del Castillo and Sánchez got a 2-6 of their own, Mouriño and Mena incredibly won the third set.

The match finished 6-2 2-6 6-3, taking them to their first-ever main draw. Waiting for them are eight-seed Maxi Sánchez and Lucho Capra.

Rubio/Benítez vs Bueno/Quílez

Finally, two-seed Gonzalo Rubio and Miguel Benítez were in action against Toni Bueno and Marc Quílez.

Rubio and Benítez caused arguably the surprise of the season last time out in Malaga, beating number ones of the world Alejandro Galán and Juan Lebrón, but were beaten 3-6 to start this final.

The second set saw the Spaniards win the tie-break to stay alive, and the third and final frame 6-1 to be amongst the very best again in the main draw.
