Salazar's return this season saw them win their first title in Alicante since the Keler Euskadi Open de 2016. Despite winning their first title, Marrero and Salazar still struggled to find their usual consistency. Gemma Triay and Lucía Sainz were a notch above them and stole the number two ranking from them. But Marrero and Salazar didn't give up and won their second title of the season at the Lugo Open 2018. After this success, they went on to win the WOpen in early September and announced their return as regular title contenders.A devastating final rushTwo consecutive titles, in Bilbao and Murcia, have put Marrero and Salazar on an eight match winning streak and leave them equal with the world number one pairing in terms of titles won in 2018. Five titles which also help them return to the number two ranking, jumping above Triay and Sainz ahead of the Estrella Damm Master Final. A privilege which means they would avoid taking on Majo and Mapi Sánchez Alayeto until the final. A pairing they've beaten on five occasions this season.
