It was down to the final eight pairs on Friday at the Cervezas Victoria Marbella Master 2022, the first Master of the 2022 season.

Several of the top eight seeds had already been knocked out heading into the day of action at the Marbella Arena, with more surprises in store again.

Riera/Llaguno (5) vs Brea/Icardo (4)

First at the Marbella Arena centre court was a stand-off between the four-seed and the five-seed.

Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno played Delfi Brea and Tamara Icardo, with the latter pair still looking to make their first semi-finals of the 2022 season.

Las Heras/Virseda vs Sainz/Marrero (6)

The first match over on court 2 featured Barbara Las Heras and Verónica Virseda, who played former number ones and last week's Mallorca Challenger winners Lucía Sainz and Marta Marrero.

Las Heras and Virseda looked to make their third semi-finals of the season, having never made one before 2022, with Sainz and Marrero too aiming for their third semi-final this campaign

Sánchez/Josemaría (2) vs Mesa/Jensen

Two-seed Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría were in action on centre court, playing Carla Mesa and teenager Claudia Jensen.

Sánchez and Josemaría have not made a semi-final since making seven straight finals between October and April, while Mesa and Jensen look to make their first semi-finals ever.

Osoro/Iglesias (7) vs Talaván/Araújo

Finally, Aranza Osoro and Victoria Iglesias took to court 2 against surprise package Marta Talaván and Sofia Araújo.

Talaván looked to kick on after knocking out number ones Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay on Thursday, while Osoro and Iglesias tried to make their ninth semi-final since forming as a pair at the start of 2021.
