Women's pre-qualifying for the Cervezas Victoria Marbella Master 2022 came and went over the weekend on the Spanish coast, with 2022's first Master taking place this week.

Women's pre-qualifying for the Cervezas Victoria Marbella Master 2022 came and went over the weekend on the Spanish coast, with 2022's first Master taking place this week.

All of the best players in the world will be fighting for the title, and in pre-qualifying, eight pairs came out alive to keep fighting for a spot in the main draw from Tuesday onwards. Here is what happened in women's pre-qualifying!

First, the freshly forged duo of Monica Gómez and Manuela Schuck were in action against Carla Fito and Britain's number one Tia Norton. A three-set affair, Gómez and Schuck came back from behind to win 2-6 6-2 6-2 to go through to the qualifying rounds.

Letizia Manquillo and Patrícia Ribeiro were stretched to three sets too against Manuela Alaga and Lucía García, eventually winning 6-3 4-6 6-3.

Sandra Hernández and Gemma Negre were favourites going into their match against Maria E. Rodriguez and Mireia Herrada, but it took them three sets and almost three hours to win 7-6 4-6 6-4, scratching and clawing their way to the qualifying stages.

One of the surprises of the day came when Russian Ksenia Sharifova and Raquel Segura took on Lorena Vano and Marina Pinacho, the third seed in pre-qualifying, and routed them with a double 6-3 to go through to qualifying.

Marta Borrero and Alejandra Alonso took on the Spanish duo Ana Varo and Marta Porra in one of the quickest matches of the day. It finished 6-1 6-3 to Borrero and Alonso, who look to make another main draw.

Italians Emily Stellato and Carolina Petrelli again made it out of pre-qualifying, beating Maria Castañera and Carla Castillo to the punch after winning 2-6 6-4 6-2.

Despite being wild cards, Ana Seijas and Vanesa Alonso won both of their games to go through too. In the final, they faced Noemí Aguilar and Marta Arellano, and won 6-3 6-7(4) 6-0.

Finally, the relatively new pair of Nicole Traviesa and Helena Wyckaert were also through to the qualifying rounds. The Spanish-Belgian tandem won 4-6 6-4 6-3 against Cristina González and the Portuguese Margarida Fernandes.
