Here is what happened in the four finals of qualy, as well as how all seven internationals got on.

The first two qualy finals

At 15:30 local time, the first of the four finals tipped off between Mario del Castillo-Antonio Luque and Marc Quiñez-Toni Bueno.

Quiñez and Bueno, who were looking to make the final draw of an Open for the first time this year, started off as the better side. They got the break and held on to it, winning the opening set 3-6.

Then, it was all about 32nd seed. Del Castillo and Luque gave their opponents a taste of their own medicine and then some, winning the second and third set 6-3. This game finished 3-6 / 6-3 / 6-3, meaning Del Castillo and Luque will face Javier Leal and José Rico.

Another three-set epic was in store in the second final at the We Are Padel Skurup club, where Brazilian Lucas Bergamini and Jorge Ruiz faced Alvaro Cepero and Rafael Méndez.

Cepero and Méndez started off brightly and took the first set 4-6, but it was all about the response from Bergamini and Ruiz.

Up against the ropes, they came out firing in the second set, dominating it 6-2. They took this momentum into the decider, although it was very levelled. Finally, with the set headed towards a tie-break, they found a breakthrough. It finished 4-6 / 6-2 / 7-5. Bergamini and Ruiz will face none other than Fernando Belasteguín and Arturo Coello in the round of 32.

The final two qualy finals

A surprise was in the books in the third final between Christian Fuster-Antón Sans against Juan Mieres-Matías Díaz.

The tried and tested pairing of Mieres and Díaz took an early 0-3 lead. Fuster and Sans were not flustered, however, and came back to force a tie-break, which they managed to win: 7-6(7).

Fuster and Sans started the second set the same way they ended the first, taking a 3-1 lead. Unlike their foes, they could hang on to their break's advantage and won this match 7-6(7) / 6-4.

The final pair to get out of the Areco Malmö Padel Open qualifiers was either Jaime Menéndez- Adrián Ronco or Raúl Marcos- Javier García.

A very equal first set looked to be headed to a tie-break until Marcos and García broke at the very last time of asking to win 7-5.

Menéndez and Ronco were not ready yet to fly home, however, responding well in the second frame. They took a break and kept it, seeing it out 4-6 to force a decider.

In it, momentum swung back towards Marcos and García, in what looked like a copy of the first set. Again, they broke right at the end of the set, and again, they won it 7-5.

Internationals at Malmö Padel Open qualifiers

Another tough day at the office for the international players at the Areco Malmö Padel Open, as was the case in the pre-qualifiers earlier.

Four of the seven international players - non-Spanish or Argentinian - did not advance past the first of the three rounds.

Local hero Daniel Appelgren surprisingly made it out of pre-qualy and was the only Swede left standing. However, he stranded in the first qual round, losing 5-7 3-6 to Pablo Castillo and Boris Castro.

The same fate awaited Italian tandem Simone Cremona and Marco Cassetta. Surviving pre-qualy, they too fell in the first qualy round to Spanish duo Claudio Lanzinger and Ignacio Vilariño, 6-7(6) 3-6.

Italian Nicolo Cotto fell in a double 2-6 to Alonso Rodríguez and Pablo Cardona.

French number one Benjamin Tison was successful in the first round, but fell in the second. In three sets, the Frenchman was bested 7-6(5) 5-7 6-1 by Mario Del Castillo and Antonio Luque.

Javier Valdés regularly makes it into the final draw of a tournament, but failed to do so in Malmö. The Chilean fell in the second round to Raúl Marcos and Javier García in straight sets, 2-6 4-6.
