Juan Lebrón and Alejandro Galán, back to their absolute best

In the final of the men's competition, the world's number one pair Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan faced the explosive Franco Stupaczuk and Alex Ruiz. The match was a replay of the Madrid Open quarter-final two weeks earlier that had seen Stupaczuk and Ruiz pull off a shock upset on their way to the final in the Spanish capital.

Here in Alicante, Lebron and Galan were out for revenge and looking to vindicate their status as the world's best. The Spanish pair started well, breaking Stupaczuk's serve to go 2-0 up in set one. Lebron and Galan kept that form going, breaking Ruiz's serve on a golden point to make it 4-0.

The number one pair were looking supremely confident, and took the first set in a blitz of power and technique 6-0 in just 30 minutes. The start of the second set saw Stupaczuk and Ruiz finding their level again, as the pattern of play shifted. They got their first game on the board, and stayed on level terms, trading blows with Lebron and Galan game by game.

At 5-4 up, with Stupaczuk serving, Lebron and Galan seized their opportunity, winning every point in the game to take set two 6-4 in 40 minutes. An emotional victory for Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan, back to their absolute best, winning the Estrella Damm Alicante Open 2021 for their first trophy of the year.
