Two of the pairings who impressed the most on day one were out for a place in the quarter finals. Capra/Moyano VS Jardim/TapiaThe good sensations which both players offered in the first round continued in this match. Tapia's fresh approach on court was accompanied by Jardim's touches of quality to complicate life for a pairing that was the favourite coming into this clash. And it was precisely the favourites who made the most of a break to win the first set 6-4. But that's when Jardim and Tapia produced the perfect storm of padel. The Argentine pearl got the fans off their seats once again at the Olimpic de Badalona. He produced all kinds of shots alongside Jardim to rip through the pairing coached by Gustavo Pratto. 6-0 and 6-1 to continue making history. Jardim and Tapia will be in the quarter finals of the Estrella Damm Catalunya Master.Bela /Lima VS Peter/ArisAfter the excitement of the first match of the afternoon, it was time for the world number ones. Fernando Belasteguín and Pablo Lima took on a pairing that is constantly improving since they came together at the end of last season. Peter Alonso and Aris Patiniotis were looking to pull off a miracle against Bela and Lima. It was a tough mission as the number ones continue in beast mode, leading matches from start to finish. A clear 6-3 in the first confirmed this pattern. Peter and Aris found no way of hurting Bela and Lima and the second set went the same way as the first. In fact, it ended in the same result. 6-3 and the match went to the world number ones.Maxi/Sanyo VS Quiles/AllemandiAfter the world number one pairing, it was the the number two's turn. Maxi Sánchez and Sanyo Gutiérrez entered the scene and they took on a duo that can make life difficult for anyone on tour: Fede Quiles and Adrián Allemandi. And that's exactly what they did. In a brutal first set with extremely long rallies, no one could manage a break of serve, no one could through the other's defence and a tiebreak was needed. The seeds imposed themselves and won a psychological first set. Quiles and Allemandi couldn't pick themselves back up and were whitewashed 6-0 in the second set. A bagel that sends the world number two pairing into the quarter finals.Paquito/Juan Martín VS Rivera/CompanyWith the top two pairings in the quarter finals, it was time for the third seeds to try and emulate them. Paquito Navarro and Juan Martín Díaz faced the tough task of taking on a local pairing. The Catalans Rubén Rivera and Gerard Company had the fans on their side but it was too much to ask to try and stun the favourites. They tried to respond to every attack from Paquito Navarro and every deft touch from Juan Martin. Unfortunately for them they simply had no answer. A convincing 6-1 / 6-2 scoreline put an end to their journey and continued Paquito Navarro and Juan Martin Diaz's.
