Italians back in the fold as first-ever Vienna qualifying concludes

The main draw for the women's Vienna Padel Open 2022 is now complete as qualifying concluded on Tuesday at the Steffl Arena.

Four pairs are to be added to the 24 already in the main draw, with pre-qualifying starting during the weekend.

Here is what happened in the four finals played out throughout the day!

Sussarello/Vinci vs Girdo/Brito

The longest match of the four finals was no doubt the match played out between Italians Giulia Sussarello and Roberta Vinci when they took on Swede Amanda Girdo and Argentinian Nelida Brito.

Girdo and Brito, who made their first round of 16 together in Brussels, took the opening set 5-7, but it was not done there.

Sussarello and Vinci, together once more after a few tournaments apart, drew level after winning the second set 6-4, and won the match eventually via a 6-3 in the final set.

The Italians are through to the main draw, where they face Marbella's finalists Bárbara Las Heras and Verónica Virseda.

Hernández/Martínez vs Blanco/Ruiz

An all-Spanish affair featured next, Sandra Hernández and Patricia Martínez taking on Alicia Blanco and Sara Ruiz.

Hernández and Martínez were more eager out of the blocks and went ahead in the first set, eventually winning it 6-4.

They followed it up with more good padel in the second set, and after an hour and 28 minutes, they closed the match 6-4 6-4.

Waiting for them in the round of 32 are Jessica Castelló and French Alix Collombon.

Guinart/Canovas vs Merino/Alonso

Third in the order were Marina Guinart and Noa Canovas in their duel with Melania Merino and Lorena Alonso.

Another three-setter, Guinart and Canovas looked in control as they won the opening frame 6-3.

Merino and Alonso struck back with fierce in the second, however, dominating to win 1-6.

In the third and final set, Guinart and Canovas retook control and won 6-4 to go through to the main draw.

Here, they will play Teresa Navarro and Léa Godallier.

Barrera/Caparros vs Pujals/Piltcher

Finally, Marta Barrera and Marta Caparros took to court 2 against Sara Pujals and Brazilian Raquel Piltcher.

The Martas Barrera and Caparros were much the better side in the first side, winning the match with a sweep 6-0.

Pujals and Piltcher turned the match around completely in the second, taking it 2-6, but were again blown away in the third.

Barrera and Caparros won 6-3 in the third, and will face Bea Caldera and Nuria Rodríguez in the round of 32.
