Former number one Marta Marrero has announced she cannot compete in the Blockchain.com Miami Padel Open 2022 after suffering an injury.

The three-seed, together with Lucía Sainz, will therefore not be able to compete in the season opening tournament. It is too late for Sainz to switch partners for Miami as the two had already registered as a pairing, meaning both Marrero and Sainz will sit out.

From World Padel Tour, we wish Marta Marrero a speedy recovery!

Through the trickle-down effect after the announcement of the absence of Marrero/Sainz, a new pairing has been called up to fill their space. Through the Lucky Loser draw, Carmen Castillón and Melania Merino will take their place in the season opening tournament.

It also means all pairs will go up a seed. Marta Ortega and Bea González now are the fourth-ranked duo, meaning they are automatically through to the round of 16.

Another pair who has withdrawn is the one of Mari Carmen Villalba and Ariadna Cañellas. The former has been struck down with illness and cannot make the trip to the United States, meaning they forfeit the first round. Sofia Saiz and Marina Martínez are automatically through to the round of 16.

All of this leaves the female draw like this:
