Iglesias and Navarro reach the semifinals. The twins remain unstoppable

The women moved onto centre court at the Estrella Damm Alicante Openwith the first quarter finals. The first clash was between Patricia Llaguno - Elisabet Amatriaín and the newly formed parternship of Victoria Iglesias and Teresa NavarroAn exchange of breaks got both pairings going. In the ninth game, Navarro and Iglesias broke their opponents again and held onto their advantage until the end of the set, which ended 6-4 to Javier Peña's girls after over an hour of play. There were no signs that Patty and Eli would react as they did in the second set. They took the first five games, with Eli dominating the tempo, and controlling the net, and Llaguno finding impossible angles to win 6-1 and force a third set.

Navarro and Iglesias were at their best again in the third set and they pushed the number three seeds on their opening service game, but they managed to hold on. The drama and tension grew as the set went into a tiebreak to decide who would advance to the semifinals. Patty and Eli took a 4-1 lead, but Iglesias and Navarro kept on fighting to turn the tide and they made the most of their first match point to win the set and reach their first semifinals together.

A high voltage clash got the action underway at the Club de Campo de Alicante, as Majo and Mapi Sánchez Alayeto were looking for a place in the semifinals against Marta Ortega and Ariana Sánchez. The only pairings to have won a title this season went face to face. After an even start, Ortega and Sanchez grabbed the first break in the fifth game. But the players coached by Jorge Martinez got back in it in the sixth game by forcing the set into a tiebreak. Here, the twins committed fewer mistakes and won the opening set.

That proved to be a real morale blow for their opponents, who couldn't find a way back in. The second set was an onslaught from the twins. They found an answer for every Ortega-Sanchez attack and they took the second set 6-0 in 28 minutes to reach the semifinals and prolong their winning streak which started at the Open de A Coruña.
