The draw has thrown up some first round matches which could easily be quarter finals or semi finals at other tournaments. One of the standout clashes at the Pabellón Pedro Ferrándiz is between the number 7 seeds Álvaro Cepero - Aday Santana and the 14th ranked pairing of Federico Chingotto - Juan Tello. A match which has gone to the Argentine duo in their last two meetings, having defeated the Spanish pairing in the quarter finals of the Valladolid Open and the last sixteen of the Gran Canaria Isla Europea del Deporte 2017.The champions of the last two Opens, Franco Stupaczuk and Cristian Gutiérrez, will also have a complicated first round affaire. The number 5 seeds get underway against the winners of the Joma Challenger disputado en Cabrera del Mar, Pablo Lijó and Willy Lahoz.
