Galán/Lebrón (1) VS Díaz/Lijó (7-5 / 6-3)

Centre court at the Malmö Arena on Thursday morning first saw the world's number ones Alejandro Galán and Juan Lebrón make their tournament bow.

Taking on Juan Martín Díaz and Pablo Lijó, the underdogs showed a lot of character in the opening set. They went blow-for-blow with Galán and Lebrón, who are looking to confirm number one status for 2021 this tournament.

At the death, when things looked to course towards a tie break, the two Spaniards finally found a way through, winning 7-5.

In the following set, Galán and Lebrón looked for a break earlier and found it. Not looking to hang around, they hung onto their advantage and saw out the set, winning 6-3 to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Stupaczuk/Ruiz (5) VS Marcos/García (6-3 / 6-2)

Proceedings on Thursday morning in the Areco Malmö Padel Open round of 16 were kicked off by the number five pairing, Franco Stupaczuk and Alex Ruiz, squaring off against a dangerous opponent in Raúl Marcos and Javier García.

Massively favoured in the rankings as it is the five against the 33rd seed, Stupa and Ruiz are in tremendous form. Making the final at the Cervezas Victoria Córdoba Open 2021, they kept up their momentum. The first set was relatively straightforward, breaking and winning 6-3.

Marcos and García had never made an Open quarter-final in 2021 and were up against it. They could not make a fist however against the superior Stupa and Ruiz. They again broke, and a second time this set, beating them 6-3 6-2.

Belasteguín/Coello (6) VS Del Castillo/Luque (6-1 / 3-6 / 6-2)

In the third and final match of the morning, Fernando Belasteguín and Arturo Coello were in action as they took on qualifying survivors Mario del Castillo and Antonio Luque.

Predictably, Bela and Coello were ruthless in the first set, taking it with authority as they won 6-1.

Less predictably, the script was flipped in the second set. Del Castillo and Luque held their own and started to look for a break themselves against the still relatively new pairing of Bela and Coello. The 32nd-seeded pair broke the sixth seed and won 3-6 to force a decider.

This is when Belasteguín took over. Upping the tempo and taking control of the rallies, the veteran and the teenager Coello broke not once but twice and took the win. This match finished 6-1, 3-66-2.
