Champions of the Barcelona Master 2021

The Estrella Damm Barcelona Master title was at stake as top seeds Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay went up against third seeds Bea Gonzalez and Lucia Sainz in the women's final.

This was Salazar and Triay's seventh final of 2021, a year where they have led the rankings and won tournaments in Alicante, Valladolid, Malaga and last time out in Sardinia.

For Gonzalez and Sainz, their semifinal win had been bittersweet, after opponent Majo Sanchez Alayeto was forced to withdraw through injury. Nonetheless, they now had the chance to win their first tournament of the year.

It was a close start, with break points in all of the first four games. Two breaks went the way of Salazar and Triay, one for Sainz and Gonzalez - to leave the top seeds 3-1 up. They consolidated that advantage with another break in game six, moving up a gear to take the first set 6-1.

The momentum was with Salazar and Triay, and there was no change early in set two, as they went a break up in the first game. Another break in game five put the number one seeds in what looked like an unstoppable position. Sainz and Gonzalez had their moments, but Salazar and Triay were playing close to their best padel. At 5-2, Triay served for the match and the tournament, and completed the job on a golden point.

A 6-1, 6-2 two set win for Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay in an hour and 11 minutes, champions of the Barcelona Master 2021.
