Brea/Icardo keep Valencia Open title defence alive after quarter-final upset

The women's Estrella Damm Valencia Open 2022 quarter-finals saw a minor upset as reigning champions Delfina Brea and the local Tamara Icardo knocked out a top-three seed.

In the ninth Open of the season, La Fonteta again hosted the best padel in the world on the Spanish East coast, with just four pairings left after the matchday on Friday.

Salazar/Triay (1) vs Riera/Llaguno (6)

First at centre court were reigning number ones Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay in a replay of the Brussels Padel Open final against Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno.

Sainz/Marrero (3) vs Brea/Icardo (5)

Local Tamara Icardo along with partner Delfi Brea featured next as their Valencian title defence continued against Lucía Sainz and Marta Marrero.

Ortega/González (4) vs Fernández/Bidahorria

The second match on court 2 saw four-seed Marta Ortega and Bea González go up against first-time quarter-finalists Claudia Fernández and Julieta Bidahorria.

Josemaría/Sánchez (2) vs Jensen/Mesa

Finally, two-seed Paula Josemaría and Ariana Sánchez were in action against 2022 breakout players Claudia Jensen and Carla Mesa.
