And it would come from a classic clash: Juan Mieres - Miguel Lamperti vs Fernando Belasteguín - Pablo Lima. A match which has been played many times but is always an exciting affaire. The world number one pairing broke early on to stun the duo from Bahia Blanca. Lima's volley and Belasteguin's intelligence was working wonders but Mieres and Lamperti attempted to weather the storm. They had break point opportunities on three different occasions but didn't quite claim any and the number one seeds hung onto their advantage. The pairing coached by Horacio Álvarez Clementi broke again and served at 5-2 to win the set. Mieres and Lamperti struck back with a break but were then broken themselves as they lost the first set 6-3 in 53 minutes. Bela and Lima kept in control in the second set but Mieres and Lamperti seemed in better shape, with fewer unforced errors. But Bela and Lima managed a break on the back of some strong volleying and it seemed like nothing could stop them in their tracks then. After five games, they were up 4-1. Like in the first set, Mieres and Lamperti still had something left in the tank and, with some hard work and moments of brilliance, they broke back. This was only temporary however, as Bela and Lima got back to 5-3 and closed out the match at 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the Estrella Damm Alicante Open.
