The semifinals of the men's Bilbao Open 2018 began with Juan Mieres - Miguel Lamperti against Matías Díaz - Alejandro Galán. A clash of titans in which Diaz and Galan got off to a better start. The number three seeds clinched two breaks and led 3-0. Diaz and Galan were just in another class at the start, with Mati playing pin-point lobs and Galan showing devastating power.
It was a lethal combination for Mieres and Lamperti, who succumbed 6-4 in the first set. The duo from Bahia Blanca got a break back towards the end of the set and, despite not winning it, they did find some confidence heading into the second set. Ale Galán was then hampered by a back injury and this opened the door to an improved Mieres and Lamperti, who flew into a 5-0 lead. In the end they won the set 6-3 to force a third set. In the decider, Mieres and Lamperti broke to go up 4-3 and that was enough. They kept that advantage and won 6-4.
